Description
The Burkert Type 8742 is a mass flow controller (MFC) or mass flow meter (MFM) for gases, used in many different process environments — from metal and glass production, through fermentation processes, to test benches, filling systems, and packaging machines. Depending on requirements, the device can be configured as an MFM or an MFC, with up to four calibration curves optionally storable, allowing a single device to be flexibly adapted to different gases or measuring ranges.
At the heart of the Type 8742 is a thermal MEMS sensor positioned directly in the gas flow. This gives it very fast response times and very high measuring accuracy, which remains stable even over long periods. A direct-acting proportional valve from Burkert serves as the final control element, providing high response sensitivity. Thanks to a high IP protection rating and optional explosion protection, the device is also suitable for use in harsh environments.
Two versions are available in terms of interface equipment: a variant with various analog and digital communication interfaces, and a variant with a pure CANopen-based interface. The latter can be integrated directly into existing CANopen networks or, in combination with a Burkert fieldbus gateway, into all common industrial Ethernet or fieldbus standards. This version is particularly designed for applications with many parallel control loops: up to 32 MFCs/MFMs can be connected to one fieldbus gateway, which converts the internal CANopen communication to the respective industrial Ethernet or fieldbus standard. Switching between buS and CANopen communication is possible at any time.
