Description
The Type 8746 is a mass flow controller (MFC) or mass flow meter (MFM) for gases and covers a wide range of applications - from metal and glass production, through fermentation processes, to test benches, filling systems, and packaging machines. The device is available in two communication variants: with various analog and digital interfaces, or with a purely CANopen-based interface.
The CANopen variant can be integrated directly into existing CANopen networks or - in combination with a Burkert fieldbus gateway - into virtually all common industrial Ethernet or fieldbus standards. This version is particularly suitable for applications with many control loops: up to 32 MFCs or MFMs can be connected to a single fieldbus gateway, which converts the internal CANopen communication to the respective industrial Ethernet or fieldbus standard. Switching between buS and CANopen communication is possible at any time.
Depending on requirements, the Type 8746 can be configured as an MFM or MFC, with up to four calibration curves optionally stored in the device. The thermal inline sensor sits directly in the main flow, providing fast response times and high, long-term stable measuring accuracy. Either a direct-acting electromagnetic proportional valve or a Burkert motorized valve is used as the final control element, ensuring high response sensitivity. Despite high flow rates, pressure loss remains low, and thanks to a high IP protection rating and explosion protection, the device is also suitable for harsh environments.
