Description
For measuring and controlling gas flows in industrial processes, Burkert offers the Type 8742, a mass flow controller (MFC) or mass flow meter (MFM), which has proven itself in metal and glass production, fermentation processes, and on test benches, filling systems, and packaging machines, among other applications.
At the heart of the device is a thermal MEMS sensor positioned directly in the gas stream. It provides very fast response times and high measuring accuracy that remains stable over long periods. Flow is controlled via a direct-acting proportional valve from Burkert, which serves as the final control element for high response sensitivity. The Type 8742 can be configured as either an MFM or an MFC; up to four calibration curves can optionally be stored in the device, which facilitates use with different gases.
Two interface versions are available: a version with various analog and digital communication interfaces and a version with a purely CANopen-based interface. The latter can be integrated into existing CANopen networks or, together with a Burkert fieldbus gateway, gain access to all common industrial Ethernet and fieldbus standards. This version is specifically designed for applications with many control loops: up to 32 MFCs or MFMs can be connected to a single fieldbus gateway, with the gateway translating the internal CANopen communication to the respective industrial Ethernet or fieldbus standard. Switching between buS and CANopen communication is possible at any time. Thanks to a high IP protection rating and explosion protection, the Type 8742 is also suitable for use in demanding, harsh environments.
