Industrial communication
Industrial communication products from Bürkert link process valves, controllers and sensors to the control level without wiring every device individually. The units in this group handle pneumatic actuation, position feedback and diagnostics directly at the valve and pass the data on to the plant control system over fieldbus or industrial Ethernet. A pneumatically actuated valve thereby becomes a diagnosable node on the plant network.
Control heads for hygienic and aseptic process valves
The Type 8682 control head covers the full decentralised automation of pneumatically actuated process valves: pilot valves, contactless position sensing, feedback and bus communication in a single housing. Its universal mounting concept allows it to be combined with common butterfly valves, ball valves and single-seat valves regardless of manufacturer or series. Variants with IP65 protection and ATEX approval also cover hazardous zones, and the supply is typically 24 V DC.
Process control with an integrated bus interface
The Type 8793 SideCONTROL digital process controller mounts to linear and rotary actuators to IEC 60534-6-1 and VDI/VDE 3845. It accepts the usual standard signals, takes the process value as 4 - 20 mA, Pt 100 or a frequency signal, and derives from it the setpoint for the subordinate positioner. Commissioning runs through the automatic P.TUNE and X.TUNE routines, with operation via the graphic display on the device.
Supported protocols and networks
Depending on the device variant, büS as Bürkert's own system bus, IO-Link, PROFINET, PROFIBUS DP, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and AS-Interface are available. Which protocol makes sense is usually decided by the existing controller and by how much diagnostic data has to travel back from the field: AS-Interface is enough for plain switching and signalling, whereas IO-Link and industrial Ethernet additionally carry parameter settings and condition data. The matching valve bodies are found in the parent section fluid technology.
Software, licences and commissioning
Devices are configured, parameterised and diagnosed with the Bürkert Communicator, the software tool of the EDIP device platform. Network access is provided by the Type 8923 USB büS interface set, which reads cyclic process values and acyclic diagnostic data, updates firmware and backs up device configurations. Extended functions such as the Batch Controller for dosing tasks or the graphical programming environment f(x) are licensed through Type 8922 software function activation.
Matching valves for the automation task
A control head or process controller is only ever half the solution; the other half is the valve underneath it. Control duties with position feedback suit electromotive valves, straightforward media switching is handled by 2/2-way solenoid valves, and distribution or changeover duties by 3/2-way solenoid valves. High-flow pipework frequently calls for ball valves. It matters that valve and control head are specified together, because mounting standard, air capacity and feedback type all have to match.
