Industrial handheld scanners are rugged, portable devices for reading 1D and 2D barcodes and, in many models, RFID tags as well – built for continuous use in harsh conditions where ordinary office scanners quickly reach their limits. Unlike simple consumer scanners, they rely on imaging technology that can often capture documents and images in addition to barcodes.
Typical features include IP54 to IP67 protection against dust and water, resistance to drops from several metres onto concrete, removable batteries for multi-shift operation, and wireless connectivity via Bluetooth®, WLAN or proprietary radio technology for cordless use over longer ranges.
