Filter regulator

The filter regulator does in one housing what otherwise takes two devices: it separates condensate and particles and regulates the working pressure in the same step. That saves installation length, one fitting and a potential leak point. With 240 versions it is the largest single group in the standard series.

How a filter regulator works

The air enters, is freed of condensate and coarse particles in the cyclone and passes through the sintered element with 40 µm pore size. Only then does the regulating stage follow, so the regulator diaphragm already sees clean air. The regulator is relieving and vents excess pressure when the set point is reduced. Condensate collects in the bowl (25 or 80 ml) and is drained through a manual drain valve. Mounting position: vertical, filter facing down.

Choosing the right filter regulator

Four control ranges are available (0.5–3, 0.5–6, 0.5–10 and 0.5–16 bar) in sizes 30 and 40 with connections from G ⅛ to G ½. The environment decides the bowl: plastic makes the level visible, metal is more robust, the metal guard combines both. Gauge Ø 50 or Ø 63 and operation by handwheel or T-handle are selected independently.

Typical applications

  • Individual machines and workstations with little installation space
  • Retrofitting to existing consumers
  • Service points where filter and regulator belong together anyway
  • Test and assembly stations with changing tools
  • Control cabinets and machine enclosures

Frequently asked questions

Is a filter regulator as good as a separate filter plus regulator?

For most applications, yes. Separate devices pay off if you want to size the filter larger than the regulator, or if something is branched off between the two.

Do I also need a micro filter?

The sintered element retains 40 µm – enough for tools and cylinders. For oil-free or particularly clean air, fit a micro filter downstream.

Why must the filter face downwards?

Because condensate follows gravity. If the device is horizontal or upside down, the water does not collect in the bowl but continues into the system.
