Nutshell Granules
Nutshell granules are the softest medium in the range: a reusable organic abrasive made from walnut shells, produced by Kuhmichel Abrasiv. On pallets there are 11 items to choose from.
Material and technical data
The granulate is made from crushed, cleaned and screened walnut shells. It is far softer than any mineral abrasive and removes practically nothing from the base material. Being elastic, it deforms on impact and transfers its energy to the layer on top rather than to the part underneath.
Grain sizes and applications
Typical jobs are paint stripping, deburring, degreasing and cleaning on parts that must stay dimensionally accurate: moulds and tools, engine components, turbine parts, sensitive surfaces in aluminium or plastic. As a reusable medium it runs many cycles until the grain has become too fine.
Why the pallet
Nutshell granules are light, so a pallet corresponds to a very large volume — sensible for the initial fill of several cabinets or in contract blasting. For normal resupply the bag is enough. Further grades on pallets are under palletised goods.
What matters when choosing
The limit is hardness: firmly adhering scale or baked-on coatings will not come off with nutshell granules. It is the medium of choice when the part must be spared — and the wrong choice when substance has to be removed.
Alternatives in the range
Where the surface is to be compacted rather than removed, Glass Beads are the alternative. For removal work Asilikos and Silicon Carbide are available. Every grade side by side is in the blasting media programme.
