Gemue 423 Motorized butterfly valve
The Gemue 423 is a centric, motorized butterfly valve with a valve body made of PVC-U. It is the automated version for plants without a compressed air network and, among the Gemue butterfly valves, the choice when a plastic valve is to be controlled electrically – for example in water treatment, in electroplating and pickling plants or with acidic and alkaline media. Electric actuator instead of compressed air
The quarter turn actuator is low maintenance and needs no compressed air network – the usual reason to go electric in an otherwise pneumatic plant is a single remote valve for which a line is not worth laying. A manual override and an optical position indicator are integrated as standard: the valve can therefore be operated by hand during a power failure, and its position can be read off without an instrument. Five actuator versions can be configured, with torques of 15, 20 and 35 Nm and operating times of 9 to 15 seconds; the J+J versions come with a heater and IP67.
Control and voltage versions
Six control module versions are available: the plain open/close actuator, the same with two additional potential-free limit switches to Class A (EN 15714-2), versions with a BSR battery pack for a defined fail-safe position on power failure (closed or open), a version with potentiometer output and a modulating actuator with external setpoint 0/4–20 mA for continuous control. The supply range runs from the wide-range unit 24–240 V AC / 24–135 V DC through 24 V DC and 100–240 V 50/60 Hz to 24 V and 12 V AC.
Nominal sizes, connections and sealing materials
The series covers DN 15 to DN 50. Connection is by union end with insert: predominantly as a solvent cement socket to DIN, alongside inch sizes to BS, an Rp threaded socket to DIN and for butt welding. Available liner materials are EPDM and FPM – EPDM for water, alkalis and many aqueous media, FPM for oils, greases and oxidising acids.
Configuration, advice and spare parts
Nominal size, connection type, liner material, actuator version, control module and supply voltage together make up the part number – which is where the 48 variants come from. For a replacement, the existing Gemue part number is enough for us. If the same plastic valve is needed pneumatically, the Gemue 410 is the equivalent; manually operated it is the Gemue 417.
