Microfilter
The microfilter of the airclean series carries the blue colour coding and works with a particle filtration of 0.01 µm. ewo states a residual oil content of 0.01 mg/m³ – that is particles 1 and oil 1 to ISO 8573-1, the highest level in this series for liquid oil.
How the microfilter works
Structurally the microfilter matches the pre-filter: the same painted aluminium housing, the same stainless steel support core, the same polyester fibre fleece drainage layer, NBR seal. The difference is the fineness of the borosilicate microglass fibre web. The finest oil droplets stick to the fibres, grow together and run down as larger drops – which is why the residual oil content is 50 times lower than with the pre-filter. Operating data as for the pre-filter: +1.5 to +80 °C, a maximum of 16 bar (12 bar with the automatic add-on drain valve A).
Choosing the right microfilter
A microfilter belongs behind a pre-filter, never alone at the start: the fine web is designed for oil aerosols, not for rust and dust, and clogs prematurely otherwise. The size follows the flow (583 to 3,666 l/min at p₁ = 7 bar and Δp = 0.1 bar). For oil-free air with an odour requirement the activated carbon filter follows; ready-made rows are available as combinations.

Frequently asked questions
Is the microfilter enough on its own?
No. Without an upstream pre-filter the fine fibres catch rust and dust they are not meant for – the pressure drop rises quickly and the element has to be changed far earlier.
What separates 0.01 µm from the pre-filter at 1 µm?
The pre-filter retains 99.99 % of solids from 1 µm and reaches 0.5 mg/m³ residual oil. The microfilter filters down to 0.01 µm and reaches 0.01 mg/m³. The price is a finer, more sensitive medium.
Is the air oil-free afterwards?
Free of liquid oil and oil aerosols, yes. Oil vapour and odour are gaseous – that requires the activated carbon filter, which according to ewo reaches 0.003 mg/m³.
