Turck sensors

Sensors are Turck’s largest field of work. The engineering office that started out with inductive proximity switches in Mülheim an der Ruhr in 1960 has grown into a programme covering almost every physical measurand. We structure the area the way Turck does – each sensor type gets its own level. Eleven sensor types are listed, with a total of 8,382 items in 33 categories: pressure sensors, photoelectric sensors, encoders, ultrasonic, capacitive, magnetic field, temperature, linear position and flow sensors as well as RFID and machine vision.

Pressure sensors

With 3,316 items the Turck pressure sensors are the largest area, split by output signal: pressure transmitters with 4…20 mA current output (1,563), pressure transmitters with voltage output (1,298) and electronic pressure switches with display and IO-Link (455). They measure from vacuum up to more than 1,000 bar, with a ceramic or fully welded metal cell, and work in hydraulic power units, pneumatic circuits, pumps and process lines.

Photoelectric sensors

The photoelectric sensors comprise 2,208 items in eight categories, split by design: diffuse sensors (828), through-beam sensors (474), retro-reflective sensors (360), fibre-optic sensors (235), light curtains and light grids (138), optical distance sensors (95), fork sensors (55) and colour, contrast and luminescence sensors (23). The first question in the selection is where the light may go – to a receiver, to a reflector, or only to one accessible side.

Encoders

The Turck encoders comprise 1,278 rotary encoders in four categories: incremental encoders (865), multiturn (277) and singleturn (107) absolute encoders, and contactless encoders (29), in which a passive positioning element is read through an air gap. The split follows the question of whether the machine may move to a reference point after power-up or has to know its position immediately.

Ultrasonic sensors

The Turck ultrasonic sensors comprise 218 items in two categories: diffuse-mode sensors (200, including eight level sensors) and ultrasonic barriers (18). They measure the time of flight of a sound pulse and therefore also detect glass, film, liquids and bulk material where an optical sensor fails – with ranges from 100 mm to 8 m, switching or analog output and IO-Link on 37 types.

Capacitive sensors

The Turck capacitive sensors comprise 167 items in two categories: cylindrical designs in threaded and smooth barrels (123, including two point level sensors and three mounting adapters) and rectangular designs (44). They detect metal as well as plastic, glass or liquids and sense levels through non-metallic container walls – with switching distances from 2 to 30 mm, PNP, NPN, NAMUR or 2-wire AC and IO-Link on 21 types.

Magnetic field sensors

The Turck magnetic field sensors comprise 134 items in two categories: sensors for pneumatic cylinders (106, including ten linear position sensors) and magneto-inductive proximity and weld nut sensors (28). They respond to the field of a magnet and report, for example, the piston position through the cylinder wall – for T-slots, C-slots and dovetail slots, with PNP, NPN or NAMUR output and ATEX approval on 27 types.

Temperature sensors

The Turck temperature sensors comprise 253 items in three categories: temperature probes with Pt100, Pt1000 or type K thermocouple (112), temperature transmitters with 4…20 mA, 55 of them also with IO-Link and switching output (123), and infrared temperature sensors for contactless measurement from 0 to 300 °C (18). They are fitted via compression fitting, thermowell, G or NPT thread and Tri-Clamp.

Linear position sensors

Three categories with 291 items cover travel and position: magnetostrictive linear position sensors (162), inductive linear position sensors (79), which work without a magnet using a contactless positioning element, and draw-wire and magnetically actuated position sensors with matching accessories (50). The choice comes down to measuring length, output signal and the type of positioning element.

Flow sensors

Flow monitoring comprises 295 items in three categories: immersion flow sensors (167), which work on the calorimetric principle and report whether a liquid or gas is flowing, inline flow sensors and flow meters (78) installed directly in the pipe, and evaluation units and accessories (50). Typical tasks are cooling circuits, lubrication and dry-run protection for pumps.

RFID and machine vision

Turck identification systems lists 157 RFID items: read/write devices (101, of which 46 HF read/write heads and 55 UHF devices) and tags (56) for HF and UHF. HF works at 13.56 MHz at close range, UHF reads over several metres and many tags at once. Turck machine vision comprises 65 vision sensors and smart cameras for presence, position and code inspection.

Neighbours on the sensor shelf

We do not only stock Turck. If you want to compare or need a second source, Baumer, Sick, Balluff, Leuze and Datasensing offer overlapping ranges – often with a different design, a different thread or a different lead time. The overview of all sensor brands is under sensor technology.

Further sensor types and ordering

Inductive proximity switches, radar and inclination sensors are not yet listed in the shop but can be sourced from the Turck catalogue on request – just give us the ident number or type designation. The signalling side of the same machine, from the tower light to the push button, is under Turck indicators and lighting, the parent branch under Turck control technology.
