Inductive sensors
The inductive sensor is the most widely installed sensor in mechanical engineering: no wear, no sensitivity to dirt, a million switching cycles without readjustment. We list 1,382 Turck items in nine categories, sorted by design – because that is what decides whether the sensor fits its place at all. Design first, operating distance second
Threaded barrel or rectangular is the first question. Threaded barrels are screwed in and can be adjusted in depth – M5 and M8 for grippers and clamping technology, M12 as the standard size, M18 for medium distances, M30 and larger for up to 22 mm. Rectangular designs are screwed on, cannot rotate and offer a large active face at a low overall height.
Flush or non-flush
A flush sensor may be fully embedded in metal, a non-flush one needs a free zone around the active face – in return it switches further. Our stock holds 762 flush and 570 non-flush sensors. Anyone who wants to skip the decision takes a uprox+ sensor: its coil system achieves factor 1 for all metals, aluminium and stainless steel are detected at the same distance as mild steel.
Special designs for everything else
What fits neither a barrel nor a block sits alongside: ring sensors count small parts falling through their opening, slot sensors detect cams and sheet-metal flags in the fork, dual sensors report both end positions of a part-turn actuator over one cable, and smooth barrel sensors from 3 mm are clamped instead of screwed.
Connection, protection and environment
722 sensors have a connector, mostly M12 x 1, 561 a permanently attached cable, 175 a terminal chamber. 1,846 reach IP67, 582 IP68 and 95 additionally IP69K for the high-pressure washer. 230 items work from -40 °C. When inductive is not the right answer
Inductive sensors detect metal only. For plastic, glass and bulk material the capacitive sensors sit alongside, for long distances the photoelectric sensors and the ultrasonic sensors, for piston positions inside a cylinder the magnetic field sensors.
