Turck interface technology

Between the field and the controller lies a boundary that has to do two things: separate potentials and maintain the type of protection. That is what interface technology is for. A sensor in zone 1 must not go straight to a controller in the cabinet, a Pt100 at the other end of the hall brings its earth potentials along, and a 4…20 mA loop over 200 metres picks up every hum loop. We list 284 Turck items in three categories, sorted by what the device does with the signal. The level sits under Turck control technology in the control technology section.

Binary signals: isolating switching amplifiers

The isolating switching amplifier is the most widely installed device of this class: 98 versions, median 154 EUR. It powers a NAMUR sensor with intrinsic safety, evaluates its switching state and passes it on galvanically isolated – as a relay, transistor, push-pull or MOSFET output. Along the way it monitors the line for wire break and short circuit and reports the fault acc. to NE 44. 88 of the 98 versions can be used up to SIL 2 acc. to IEC 61508.

Analog signals: transducers and power supply isolators

With the transducers and power supply isolators (128 items) it is the current loop that matters, not the switching point. The power supply isolator feeds a two-wire transmitter and isolates its signal, the temperature measuring amplifier turns a Pt100 or thermocouple into a standard signal, the analog signal isolator decouples two loops. Many types pass HART through transparently, so the field device can still be parameterised from the control system – without that path somebody would have to walk to the plant with a handheld.

Monitoring and switching

The third group does not only evaluate, it decides: frequency monitors and output modules (58 items). Speed monitors count the pulses of a proximity switch and report standstill or slip on conveyor belts and bucket elevators, limit value transmitters watch a current or voltage signal, level monitors a conductivity measurement. In the other direction, valve control modules and relay couplers switch a solenoid valve in the zone with intrinsic safety. Eight devices in this group are approved up to SIL 3.

What counts in the process industry

Almost all devices sit on the DIN rail in an IP20 housing, many with a power bridge: one connector carries the 24 V supply across the whole row instead of wiring every device individually. For Ex documentation Turck supplies the safety characteristic values, and the ATEX and IECEx approvals come with the data sheets. If the signals then have to go onto a fieldbus, the matching modules are under Turck fieldbus technology.

What you get from us

Around 40,000 Turck items can be sourced through the catalogue, including those not listed here. Terminal blocks, power bridges and resistance modules are supplied to match on request. And if the application starts at the other end: Turck sensors with pressure sensors and encoders, plus indicators and lighting for operator feedback.
